Dear Friend of 1st Way,
487.
That's the number of ultrasounds 1st Way has provided for abortion-vulnerable women in the first 9 months of this fiscal year (5/2011 - 4/2012).
369.
That's the number of ultrasounds we provided total last fiscal year.
76%
1st Way has increased it's ultrasounds provided to abortion-vulnerable mothers by 76% this year. That is an astounding fact.
Across the board, 1st Way is seeing more clients for pregnancy tests, counseling, classes and ongoing support. Across the board our methods of providing loving and non-judgmental support along with an ultrasound for every client who has a positive pregnancy test and options counseling are working. We continue to see nearly all of our clients who receive an ultrasound choose life.
Unfortunately - with the downturn in our economy - 1st Way has continued to see a steady decline in donations. For the third year in a row, our donations are down. Even with the success of our end of year campaign which nearly doubled last year's end of year giving - we still find ourselves in a deficit for this budget year.
The question arises - given that our donations are down - should 1st Way simply cut it's hours of full time service to it's clients and cut back educational expenses? Or do we need to ask you - our supporters to dig deep with us and give a little more? Your participation in our work is our life blood.
We have tried to buckle down where we can. For instance, we have lowered our nursing staff hours - which in turn reduces our ultrasound availability. This results in having to ask some clients to wait a week or even more for an ultrasound. This is precious time that we are afraid to lose with our vulnerable clients who could very easily be led astray in that time.
As is testified by the numbers above - it would seem to us that reducing our services is not the answer. We want to continue to take clients on a walk-in basis and provide what they need.
So, we are asking for your help. Would you dig deep with us? Our staff and volunteers certainly have and so have many of you already in your end of year giving. But the bottom line is that 1st Way needs more support.
We need to raise an additional $25,000 between now and the end of our fiscal year (April 30, 2012). We also would like to start our next fiscal year in a firm position to be able to continue offering this vital help. Would you consider giving in addition to any amounts you have already given?
Here's what it would take for us to reach this goal:
50 gifts of $500
100 gifts of $250
250 gifts of $100
These gifts could come as one time contributions or as a monthly or weekly gift taken out automatically at the frequency you choose.
In this initial phase of our campaign we are hoping to make up our deficit as quick as possible. If giving a lump sum up front isn't possible - please consider a monthly gift over the next three months to help us reach our goal.
* In about a month - we will be launching a monthly giving campaign to take us into the new fiscal year.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and your support of 1st Way. You are making a difference!
